Cape Town, South Africa, is a city blessed with both urban energy and breathtaking natural beauty. Table Mountain, a flat-topped behemoth that rises majestically above the city, is a must-visit for any traveler. But Cape Town’s natural splendor extends far beyond this iconic landmark. Just a short drive away lies Clifton, a series of pristine cove beaches offering a perfect escape from the city bustle. Do both and the heads of everyone in your Instagram timeline might just explode. Oh, and the memories will stay with you bright and shar forever.
Conquering the Mountain (or Taking a Scenic Ride)
Table Mountain National Park is a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Hiking enthusiasts can embark on a challenging yet rewarding trek to the summit, enjoying panoramic vistas of the city, the sprawling coastline, and the majestic Lion’s Head peak along the way. The various hiking trails cater to all skill levels, so even if you’re not a seasoned hiker, there’s a path waiting to be explored.
For those who prefer a more leisurely ascent, the Swiss-made cable car offers a quick and scenic ride to the top. Once you reach the summit, a network of well-maintained trails allows you to explore the plateau’s diverse flora and fauna. Keep in mind that weather conditions can impact access to Table Mountain. If it’s cloudy or windy, the park might be closed for safety reasons, so be sure to check the forecast before you set out on your adventure. And if the weather is clear, then make your cable car reservations in advance.
Table Mountain Soundtrack: While you conquer the slopes, immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings with a powerful soundtrack. The epic orchestral score from the 1986 film “The Mission,” composed by Ennio Morricone, perfectly complements the majesty of Table Mountain and the vastness of the landscape. Just do it… je ne sais quoi.
Clifton’s Sandy Escape
After your exhilarating (or relaxing) Table Mountain experience, head down to the postcard-perfect beaches of Clifton. Clifton is a series of four coves, each with its own unique charm. Clifton 2 and 3 are my faves, offering soft, sugary sand and crystal-clear (albeit cold!) Atlantic waters. Relax on the beach, soak up the sun, or take a refreshing dip in the ocean. Here’s where you should rest your head and refuel your body:

Tip: Cape Town is generally considered a safe city. However, as with any major destination, it’s always wise to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions against petty theft. Avoid wearing flashy jewelry or leaving valuables unattended on the beach.
